Glyndebourne's touring company premiered Tangier Tattoo, a new opera intended to attract younger audiences, on October 22.
Tangier Tattoo has music by John Lunn and a libretto by Stephen Plaice. The “operatic thriller,” as it is billed, tells the story of a young British tourist who finds himself embroiled in a drug deal gone wrong, and has elements of sex, terrorism, and betrayal. The score mixes orchestral music with electronica.
After a final performance at Glyndebourne tonight, the opera tours to Woking, Milton Keynes, Norwich, Plymouth, Stoke-on-Trent, Oxford, and Edinburgh.
The cast includes Katherine Rohrer as Nadine, Roland Davitt as Nick, Julian Forsyth as the Tattooist, Rachid Sabitri as Idris, and Omar Ebrahim as the Detective. Stephen Langridge directs; James Morgan is the conductor.
