Mezzo-soprano Susan Graham is next month's guest for "New York Philharmonic Offstage," an occasional series of discussions and performances sponsored by the orchestra. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9 in the third floor performance space of the Lincoln Triangle branch of Barnes & Noble, at Broadway and West 66th St. in Manhattan.
Jeff Spurgeon of New York radio station WQXR-FM will introduce Graham and moderate the discussion portion of the event, after which she will be available to talk with audience members and sign copies of her recordings.
Graham — who is currently starring in Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride at the Metropolitan Opera — will be the Philharmonic's featured soloist that week, performing Berlioz's La Mort de Cléopâtre on a program that also includes the overture to Berlioz's opera Benvenuto Cellini and Prokofiev's Symphony No. 7 and Scythian Suite. On the podium will be Philharmonic music director Lorin Maazel. Information and tickets are available at www.nyphil.org.
