Eleven dance companies and artists will perform at Cedar Lake in New York City on December 10 to benefit Dancers Responding to AIDS (DRA).
Choreographer Bill T. Jones will host the annual fundraiser, Dance From the Heart, which has programmed a pas de deux from Antony Tudor 's The Leaves are Fading, danced by American Ballet Theatre's Stella Abrera and Sascha Radetsky. ABT principal Michelle Wiles will also perform a work created for the occasion by ABT soloist Craig Salstein.
In a rare appearance, the Atlanta Ballet also gives its first New York performance of an excerpt from John McFall and Lauri Stallings' The Great Gatsby.
Members of Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, the Martha Graham Dance Company, Keigwin + Company, MOMIX, PARADIGM, Shen Wei Dance Arts, and choreographers Wendy Seyb and Jason Samuels Smith will perform as well.
A preview of modern dance choreographer Larry Keigwin's work-in-progress, Towel Dance, and a world premiere by Ray Mercer performed by the Broadway company of Disney's The Lion King round out the evening's program.
Founded in 1991 by former Paul Taylor dancers Denise Roberts Hurlin and Hernando Cortez, Dancers Responding to AIDS (DRA) is a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA), a leading industry-based AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization. DRA-raised funds are distributed to over 485 national AIDS and family service organizations; over $100 million have been raised since 1988.
