NY Phil Likely to Perform in North Korea
By Kevin Shihoten New York Philharmonic president Zarin Mehta and public relations director Eric Latzky, along with a U.S. State Department official, traveled to Pyongyang, North Korea last weekend to investigate possible venues for a concert by the orchestra. "I think it looks good," the AP reported Mehta as saying on his return. "There's no reason why it would not work, but we have to weigh all the different consequences." He did not know when the performance might take place.
The orchestra received an invitation from the heavily militarized nation in August.
