Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Launches In-House Record Label

By Matthew Westphal
21 Sep 2007

Following in the path established by several orchestras (e.g., the San Francisco, London and Chicago Symphonies), venues (London's Wigmore Hall) and composers (Philip Glass, John Zorn), the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center has founded its own in-house record label, CMS Studio Recordings.

The label's debut disc, released this week to coincide with the opening of the Society's 2007-08 season, features piano quartets by Beethoven and Dvorák alongside Dvorák's Terzetto for two violins and viola. Performing are CMS artistic directors Wu Han on piano and David Finckel on cello, along with three members of Chamber Music Society Two, the organization's roster of young artists: violinists Erin Keefe and Arnaud Sussmann and violist Beth Guterman. The new disc is available for purchase at the CMS website, www.ChamberMusicSociety.org, and at all Society events.

The next CMS Studio Recordings release, available in November, offers two works performed in concert during last winter's CMS festival called "English Musical Renaissance, 1900-1930": William Walton's Piano Quartet in D minor and Edward Elgar's Piano Quintet in A minor. The performers are pianist Wu Han, violinists Ani Kavafian and Arnaud Sussman, violist Paul Neubauer and cellist Fred Sherry.
