Oprah didn't show, it seems, but Phylicia Rashad made it. So did Al Roker, Jessye Norman and Hank Aaron.

Not to mention Toni Morrison, of course — the event was, after all, the New York premiere of Margaret Garner, the 2005 opera for which she wrote the libretto and Richard Danielpour wrote the score.

Last week's premiere of this new production by Tazewell Thompson, which runs through September 29, marked the official opening of New York City Opera's 2007-08 season.

Below, some glimpses of the beautiful people who turned out for the pre-curtain cocktail reception and post-curtain-call party.
