Chicago Symphony Releases Second Recording on Its Own Label, of Bruckner

By Matthew Westphal
13 Sep 2007

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, which launched its own CD label last spring with a live recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 3, has announced a second release to be issued next month.

The new title, available beginning October 7, is of Bruckner's Symphony No. 7, recorded live during concerts in Orchestral Hall last May. On the podium is CSO principal conductor Bernard Haitink.

The release will be distributed in CD and hybrid SACD formats by Harmonia Mundi USA and as a digital download via numerous online outlets, including iTunes, Amazon, eMusic and Rhapsody.

The development of the CSO Resound label, first announced last December along with the orchestra's return to regular radio broadcasts, is part of the CSO's extensive new media plans to broaden the orchestra's reach. (The project was made possible by a three-year agreement between musicians and management covering broadcast and digital transmission of concerts.)

Current plans are for the CSO to produce at least four more CD releases over the next three years, as well as three to four digital-download-only releases each year — all drawn from CSO concerts. For more information on CSO Resound, please visit www.cso.org/resound.
