The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, founded in 1988, observes its 20th anniversary this season. And the group — called the "greatest large jazz ensemble working today" by The Chicago Tribune — begins celebrating early next month with an 18-city U.S. tour from September 8 through October 3.
On the "Jazz Masterpieces Tour," taking in cities from Austin, Texas to Potsdam, New York, the JALC Orchestra will play a range of music — from Count Basie's Kansas City Suite to big band arrangements of tunes from the legendary Blue Note Records catalogue to the new suite Portrait in Seven Shades, composed by Orchestra member Ted Nash and inspired by some of the great paintings at New York's Museum of Modern Art.
