Luciano Pavarotti Goes Home from Hospital

By Matthew Westphal
27 Aug 2007

Luciano Pavarotti

More than two weeks after he was hospitalized with a fever, tenor Luciano Pavarotti has been released and returned to his home in northern Italy.

According to the Associated Press and Reuters, physicians at the Polyclinic in Pavarotti's hometown of Modena released an e-mail statement saying that the tenor's condition has "stabilized"; he was discharged at approximately 6 a.m. Saturday (August 25) so that he "can continue his convalescence in the serenity of the family environment."

Concerns about Pavarotti's health have been high ever since doctors found and removed a cancerous mass from his pancreas in New York in July of last year.

The tenor entered the Modena Polyclinic on August 8 with a fever. One week later doctors gave him clearance to return home "when he is ready"; he decided at that time to remain in the hospital to convalesce because, according to his wife, he found the environment there more restful than at home. While he was convalescing at the clinic, physicians ran further tests relating to the possible pancreatic cancer.
