Luciano Pavarotti remains in a hospital in his hometown in Italy, some twelve days after he was first admitted.
The Modena Polyclinic revealed today that the 71-year-old tenor, who entered the hospital on August 8 with a fever, is undergoing tests related to the pancreatic cancer from which he has been suffering for more than a year, according to the Associated Press and Reuters.
Pavarotti's doctors had cleared him to return home last week, though he decided to remain at the clinic because he found it more restful there than at home.
In July of 2006, doctors in New York discovered and removed a cancerous mass from Pavarotti's pancreas. He returned home to Italy several weeks later and has not appeared in public since then. News reports last month indicated that he is responding well to cancer treatment, and both his wife and his manager have said that he is in good spirits, seeing students and even preparing a new recording of sacred music.
