17 Aug 2007

Goines, 46, a member of the music school's faculty, has been director of Juilliard Jazz since its creation in 2000 During his tenure, Juilliard's jazz department has expanded from its original collaborative program with Jazz at Lincoln Center, called the Institute for Jazz Studies, and has added bachelor's and master's degree programs to its curriculum. Juilliard Jazz musicians perform frequently in New York City and have toured throughout the world and to many areas of the U.S.; the student members regularly enjoy coaching, master classes, and performances with jazz legends and master teachers.

Serving Juilliard Jazz as interim director will be another faculty member, 46-year-old drummer Carl Allen.
