Orange County PAC to Launch Its Own Version of NY City Center's 'Fall for Dance' Festival

By Vivien Schweitzer
08 Jun 2007

The Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, California is launching a "Fall for Dance" festival, running October 11-14 in Segerstrom Hall.

The event is modeled on New York City Center's successful "Fall for Dance" festival, which was inaugurated in 2004 and features a diverse lineup of dance groups at affordable prices. All tickets for "Fall for Dance" performances, in both New York and Orange County, are $10.

The OCPAC "Fall for Dance" kicks off with a program of Indian classical dance by the London-based choreographer Nina Rajarani and her company, Srishti; Kiss, a program by Susan Marshall & Company set to music by Arvo Pärt; and appearances by the Boston and Pacific Northwest Ballets and the South African group Via Katlehong Dance. These works are all part of Program A, which will also be performed on October 12.

Program B (on October 13 and 14) features Charles Moulton and The Ball Passing Project performing the premiere of 48 Person Ball Passing Combine (billed as "part dance, part game and part moving puzzle"), the Dutch National Ballet, the Martha Graham Dance Company, Alonzo King's contemporary group LINES Ballet, and Rennie Harris Puremovement performing the acrobatic Students of the Asphalt Jungle.

Judith O'Dea Morr, OCPAC's executive vice president, said in a statement, "With the Center's Fall for Dance, we're really encouraging people to take the leap and try dance. We'll have traditional dance on the same program with the cutting edge; the familiar favorites with new genres. It really will be a treasure trove of incredible dance."

Eight of the companies appearing in mainstage performances of the series will be making their house debuts.
