Dallas Symphony to Give World Premiere of 'The Music of Star Trek'

By Vivien Schweitzer
09 May 2007

This is the music of the Starship Enterprise ...

Next month, the Dallas Symphony boldly goes where no orchestra has gone before (sorry, we couldn't resist), as it performs a program called "The Music of Star Trek" on June 5 and 6 at Meyerson Symphony Center. These concerts will be the first time that the familiar themes from the multi-generation television series will be performed by a live orchestra with narration.

Cincinnati Pops maestro Erich Kunzel will be on hand, alongside John DeLancie (Q from Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Robert Picardo (the doctor from Star Trek: Voyager).

The upcoming concert was inspired by a successful DSO event last February called "Star Wars — The Live Concert."

Music by Jerry Goldsmith, whose compositions are an integral part of Star Trek, will be featured in the June performances alongside works by Alexander Courage, Cliff Eidelman, Leonard Rosenman, Dennis McCarthy and James Horner.
