Richard Tucker Foundation Presents Free Concert Studded with Stars (Frittoli, DiDonato, Blythe, Licitra, Ramey) on April 24

By Matthew Westphal
20 Apr 2007

As part of its "Concerts in the Community" program, the Richard Tucker Music Foundation will present a free concert at midtown Manhattan's Temple Emanu-El on Tuesday, April 24.

The roster is an impressive one: sopranos Maria Guleghina and Barbara Frittoli, mezzo-sopranos Stephanie Blythe and Joyce DiDonato, tenors Massimo Giordano and Salvatore Licitra, and basses Oren Gradus and Samuel Ramey. The program is of arias and duets by Verdi, Puccini, Rossini, Bizet, Giordano and Cilea, with Robert Morrison at the piano.

All eight of these singers are currently appearing in productions at the Metropolitan Opera and are performing at this concert thanks to Met general manager Peter Gelb.

The performance, which is free and open to the public, begins at 6 p.m. (doors open at 5:15) on Tuesday, April 24, at Temple Emanu-El, located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and East 65th Street in Manhattan.

Last week the Foundation — which has since 1975 given out more than $1 million to support young singers as they begin their careers — presented its annual Richard Tucker Award and Career Grants. Three of the singers on the April 24 program — Blythe, DiDonato and Gradus — are previous winners of Tucker Foundation grants.
