If this isn't one of the biggest orchestral premieres of the year, it's certainly one of the most glamorous. André Previn — conductor, composer and bona fide star of (concert) stage and screen — takes the podium of the Boston Symphony Orchestra beginning tonight to conduct the world premiere performances of his Double Concerto for violin, string bass and orchestra. Anne-Sophie Mutter, one of the finest violinists alive today (and surely the most glamorous) takes one solo part, with the other played by the young double-bass virtuoso Roman Patkoló.
The program — which also includes Mozart's Eine kleine Nachmusik and Violin Concerto No. 1 (with Mutter as soloist) as well as Ravel's complete Ma Mčre l'oye (Mother Goose) — will be performed tonight at 8 p.m., tomorrow at 1:30 p.m., and April 21 and 24 at 8 p.m. at Symphony Hall in Boston.
