Laurel and Hardy would have sympathized. A 9 foot, 6 inch long Bösendorfer grand piano met an unfortunate demise when it was dropped by moving men as they attempted to remove it from a delivery truck in southern England.
When the instrument then fell down fell down an embankment, the crash sounded, according to one witness quoted by the London Evening Standard, "like ten honky-tonk pianos being hit by mallets."
The disaster was watched by organizers of the Two Moors Music Festival in Devonshire, who had reportedly spent two years raising £45,000 to buy the piano.
John Adie, the festival's manager, told the paper, "If it had landed on somebody I don't think they could have survived," adding that the piano, which is ten years old, would cost £90,000 to buy today.
