The East Oregon Symphony lost its archives and music library when the building housing its office in Pendleton was destroyed in a fire on March 15, reports The East Oregonian.
Among the items destroyed are 20 years of records and archives and a music library. The most valuable instrument in the office, a cello belonging to music director Ken Woods, was reportedly saved.
Michelle Kajikawa, director of the Oregon East Symphony said she expects the local community to support the group. "The symphony is much larger than that building," the paper quoted her as saying."We're very hopeful. We're going to rebuild."
She added, however, that "the damage is much worse than I hoped it would be. We have insurance but it's not going to cover near the cost of getting restarted."
She said temporary office space and several computers have been donated.
