The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, after previously announcing that some works performed during its 2007-08 Casual Chic concerts on Friday nights might be bereft of a movement, has said that only complete works will be played.
FWSO press and publications manager Trish Ciaravino told the Dallas Morning News that since the orchestra received "more than a handful" of complaints, the Casula Chic programs have been tweaked so that all works will be complete and no concert will have more than 75 minutes of music.
Intermissions will be eliminated at these concerts, as well as whole pieces out of all performances on four weekends: the Schumann Spring Symphony on October 5-7; former composer-in-residence Kevin Puts's River's Rush on January 11-13; Brahms's Variations on a Theme by Haydn on March 14-16, 2008; and Beethoven's Egmont Overture on April 11-14, 2008.
The Casual Chic lineup for next season includes includes Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique; Brahms’s Concerto for Violin and Cello, with Augustin Hadelich and Alban Gerhardt as soloists; Alexander Kobrin playing Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1; Elgar’s "Enigma" Variations; Dvorák’s Symphony No. 8; and Roberto Díaz, president of the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, playing Bartók’s Viola Concerto.
Other highlights of the upcoming season in Fort Worth include composer in residence Gabriela Lena Frank's Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout, Yevgeny Sudbin as the soloist for Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Alexander Kerr playing John Corigliano’s The Red Violin concerto, and Leila Josefowicz performing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.
Miguel Harth-Bedoya conducts all concerts in the weekend series, which take place at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays, 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays.
Each of the FWSO's symphonic concerts includes at least one work designated as "People's Choice," chosen by Fort Worth Symphony patrons through an audience survey. Among the "People's Choice" works programmed for next season are (in addition to a number of the popular works mentioned above) Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony, Mozart's "Elvira Madigan" Piano Concerto (No. 23), Mendelssohn's "Italian" Symphony, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, and Beethoven's Fifth Symphony and "Emperor" Concerto.
