A special gala concert by soprano Angela Gheorghiu at the Carnival Center in Miami, scheduled for Friday, March 23, has been postponed until next season. The Miami Herald reported the change this past weekend.

The Concert Association of Florida, presenter of the gala, observes its 40th anniversary in 2007. According to a spokesperson for Gheorghiu, CAF's trustees want to make the concert the centerpiece of a special celebration next season in honor of Judy Drucker, the organization's founder and artistic director, and the soprano has agreed.

The Miami gala is now tentatively scheduled for April 16, 2008 at the Carnival Center; tickets already sold for the March 23 concert will be honored for the later event.

Gheorghiu's other U.S. appearances next month are not affected: She will sing a similar gala program, presented by Los Angeles Opera, on March 17, and she will give one performance as Violetta (opposite Jonas Kaufmann and Dwayne Croft) in the Metropolitan Opera production of La traviata on March 24.

Speaking of the Met, Gheorghiu takes the role of Amelia in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra at the house beginning next week, with performances on February 19, 23, and 27 and March 3 (matinee).
