Fort Worth Opera Moves From Fall-Winter Season to Spring Festival Format

By Vivien Schweitzer
28 Nov 2006

Fort Worth Opera has announced that it will condense its fall-winter season into a four-week spring festival; the first will take place in May 2007 and will be in lieu of this year's 2006-07 season.

The lineup for the inaugural 2007 Fort Worth Opera Festival includes the world premiere of Thomas Pasatieri's Frau Margot. The new operawill be directed by Frank Corsaro, who is also writing the libretto, based on an earlier play of his own.

The season also includes Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and Verdi’s Falstaff. The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra will perform for each opera. Other scheduled events include a concert version of Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, produced with the Van Cliburn Foundation.

The FWO decided to establish a shorter season for several reasons: more efficient and cost-effective use of time in Bass Performance Hall, where the company performs; the opportunity to schedule performances on weekends without using multiple casts; and to eliminate scheduling conflicts with nearby Dallas Opera.
