On the heels of the popular "Opera-for-All" performances this past weekend, New York City Opera opens its regular 2006-07 season with the New York stage premiere of Handel's Semele, a tale of lust, ambition and revenge among the Roman gods, with a libretto by the 18th-century English satirist William Congreve.

Elizabeth Futral takes the title role, with Vivica Genaux singing the parts of Juno and Ino, Robert Breault as Jupiter and Sanford Sylvan in the roles of Somnus and King Cadmus. Antony Walker conducts; sets and costumes are by Anthony Baker; Stephen Lawless directs.
