The musicians and management of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra have ratified a new three-year contract that retroactively went into effect on September 4.
The new agreement calls for ISO musicians' salaries to increase between 3-5 percent each year for a total of 12.6 percent over three years, according to a statement. Improvements were also made in medical, retirement and family benefits, including the addition of newborn-care leave.
Other provisions in the contract stipulate that archival recordings can be used for educational purposes and that a new professional apprenticeship program will be introduced for minority musicians.
Assistant principal horn Richard Graef, chair of the musicians’ orchestra committee, said, "Successful completion of these negotiations and the agreement on a final contract was due to the diligent efforts of many musicians and staff members. Our primary desire is to continue moving forward artistically and to be able to continue to provide a world-class symphony orchestra to the state of Indiana."
