Conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya has cancelled his appearances this evening and Thursday evening (September 7) with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl.

According to a statement released by the Philharmonic yesterday and reported by The Los Angeles Times, the maestro is shortly expecting the birth of his third child; his wife entered the hospital earlier than expected and he returned home to Texas to be with her.

Replacing Harth-Bedoya for these performances will be Mischa Santora, associate conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra. The programs remain the same: tonight's concert will feature guitarists Sérgio and Odair Assad in Rodrigo's Concierto madrigal as well as works by Jímenez, Piazzolla, Revueltas and Galindo; Thursday's performance, with cellist Han-Na Chang, offers music by Bizet, Ravel and Saint-Saëns.

Harth-Bedoya, 38 years old and a native of Peru, was the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Associate Conductor from 1998-2004. Since 2000, he has been music director of the Fort Worth Symphony in Texas; he has also served as music director of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Lima (1992-98), the Eugene Symphony in Oregon (1996-2002, succeeding Marin Alsop) and the Auckland Philharmonia (2000-2005). Among his guest-conducting engagements for the coming season are the Chicago Symphony, BBC Symphony, Canadian Opera Company, Cleveland Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Sydney Symphony and Tonhalle Orchestra of Zurich.
