Plácido Domingo will make a rare Chicago appearance next summer: He will star in the Ravinia Festival's gala fundraiser on August 4, 2007, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra led by Ravinia music director James Conlon.

Program details for the annual gala, which is hosted by the Ravinia Women's Board, will be announced later.

Domingo is general director of both the Washington Opera and the Los Angeles Opera, where James Conlon begins his tenure as music director in the upcoming season.

Domingo appeared in Chicago most recently as Siegmund in the 2005 Die Walküre, when the Lyric Opera staged Wagner’s Ring cycle. He last performed at the Ravinia Festival as singer and conductor in separate concerts with the CSO in 1994.
