Dr. John Album Debuts on Billboard Jazz Chart

Mercernary, the latest album from legendary New Orleans pianist Dr. John, debuted on the Billboard jazz chart this week at number six.

The album, a tribute to Johnny Mercer, includes such Mercer classics as "Blues in the Night," "You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby," and "That Old Black Magic." Michael Bublé's It's Time continued its long run at number one, where it has spent 57 of the last 68 weeks; The Very Best of Nat 'King' Cole remained at number two.

The Legendary Prestige Quintet Sessions, a box set collecting Miles Davis's great 1955-56 recordings with John Coltrane, Philly Joe Jones, Red Garland, and Paul Chambers, debuted at number 15; other new entries included vocalist Anjani's Blue Alert at number 16 and the Yellowjacket's Twenty-Five at number 21.

Saxophonist Everette Harp's In the Moment debuted at number one on the classical-crossover chart, nudging Herbie Hancock's Possibilities to number two. Also new to the chart was saxophonist Marion Meadow's Dressed to Chill, at number six.
