Las Vegas Philharmonic Announces 2006-07 Season

By Ben Mattison
18 May 2006

The Las Vegas Philharmonic has released details of its 2006-07 season, the last for founding music director Harold Weller.

As previously reported, the season will include performances by the three finalists for Weller's post: David Commanday, David Itkin, and Peter Rubardt. Each has selected repertoire and a soloist for his performance.

On October 14, Commanday will open the classical season with a program of Rossini, Corigliano, and Beethoven; violinist Lara St. John will join the orchestra for Sarasate's Ziguenerweisen.

Itkin will conduct Berlioz, Prokofiev, and Barber's Cello Concerto, with soloist Matt Haimovitz, on November 19. Rubardt will lead symphonies by Mozart and Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3, with Stewart Goodyear, on February 17.

Other highlights include Weller's final concerts, to feature some of his favorite works: Schubert's Symphony No. 8, Brahm's Ein Deutsches Requiem, Wagner's Overture to Rienzi, Strauss's Four Last Songs, and Elgar's Enigma Variations.
