By Ben Mattison
13 Apr 2006

Operatic soprano Natalia Troitskaya died on April 9 in Moscow, the Vienna State Opera announced. She was 55.

Between 1984 and 1991, Troitskaya sang 34 performances of six roles with the company, including Aida and Tosca.

In 1990, she appeared at Los Angeles Opera as Elizabeth in Don Carlo, in a production starring Plácido Domingo. She also appeared with Domingo in Tosca in Vienna in 1984; in Adriana Lecouvreur at the Bavarian State Opera in 1985; in Aida at Egypt's Temple of Luxor in 1987; in Pagliacci in Hamburg in 1988; and in Otello in Lisbon in 1989.

Her recordings include Shostakovich's choral symphony The Bells with the Concertgebouw Orchestra; a disc of works by Josef Suk, performed by the Czech Philharmonic and conducted by Charles Mackerras; and a 1990 recital with Dmitri Hvorostovsky, recorded in Moscow, that was released on VHS and eventually on DVD.
