Photo Journal: Lysistrata at New York City Opera

New York City Opera presented the New York premiere of Mark Adamo's Lysistrata, or the Nude Goddess last night.

The opera has a libretto by the composer, based on the Aristophanes play in which the women of ancient Sparta and Athens stop having sex with their husbands in order to stop a war. It debuted at Houston Grand Opera last year.

The New York City Opera production is directed by theater veteran Michael Kahn; sets are by Derek McLane, costumes by Murrell Horton, and lighting by Mark Doubleday.

The cast includes Emily Pulley as Lysia, Chad Shelton as Nico, Myrna Paris as Kleonike, and Jennifer Roderer as Sappho. NYCO music director George Manahan is the conductor.
