Domingo Will Sing in Los Angeles Opera Gala Benefit

By Vivien Schweitzer
20 Mar 2006

Plácido Domingo will star in the Los Angeles Opera's 20th anniversary gala performance on April 19.

L.A. Opera's benefit will feature Domingo singing the title role in Act IV of Verdi’s Otello and conducting the Act II party scene from Strauss’ Die Fledermaus. Domingo sang Otello in the company's inaugural production in 1986.

Domingo will be joined by sopranos Laura Claycomb and Cynthia Lawrence, mezzo-soprano Lucy Schaufer, baritone Rod Gilfry, and other "surprise guests."

Domingo recently extended his contract as general director of the L.A. Opera through 2011, which will mark the 25th anniversary of his debut with the company.

Individual tickets for the concert range from $30-$190. Performance and gala dinner packages cost $1,500-$5,000. For more information, call (213) 972-8001 or visit www.laopera.com.
