Ethan Stiefel Withdraws From Benjamin Millepied Performances at the Joyce
By Ben Mattison American Ballet Theatre star Ethan Stiefel has withdrawn from the upcoming Joyce Theater debut of Benjamin Millepied & Company, the company led by the New York City Ballet principal dancer. Stiefel is suffering from "a recurring knee problem," according to a press release. Stiefel was scheduled to appear opposite fellow ABT dancer Gillian Murphy in the world premiere of Millepied's Closer during the run, scheduled for March 14-19. Millepied himself will replace him in the role. The program, which also includes world-premiere works by Luca Veggetti, Andonis Foniadakis, and Aszure Barton, is otherwise unchanged. On March 15, the group will perform at a Joyce gala paying tribute to Jerome Robbins. It will include a guest performance by NYCB's Damian Woetzel and live accompaniment by Philip Glass.
