Elizabeth Futral Joins New Orleans Opera Gala

By Ben Mattison
30 Jan 2006

Soprano Elizabeth Futral has been added to the lineup for New Orleans Opera's benefit concert on March 4, the company announced.

Also scheduled to appear are tenor Plácido Domingo, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, tenor Paul Groves, and baritone Nathan Gunn. Robert Lyall will lead the Louisiana Philharmonic; Carol Rausch will lead the New Orleans Opera Chorus.

New Orleans Opera also said that it was in discussions with NPR and PBS regarding possible broadcasts of the event. A previous article on PlaybillArts reporting that the broadcasts would take place was incorrect. That report was based on a premature announcement by the company.

The concert at the New Orleans Arena will mark the return of New Orleans Opera after a hiatus forced by Hurricane Katrina. The company's regular performances will resume with a production of The Barber of Seville on March 23 and 25 and Madama Butterfly on April 20 and 22.

Tickets for March 4 gala are $10-$1,000. Call 504-529-3000 for more information.
