Domingo Receives Hungarian Medal

By Ben Mattison
08 Oct 2005

Plácido Domingo

Tenor Plácido Domingo received the Star of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary in a ceremony at the Hungarian ambassador's residence in Washington on October 2.

The honor is the highest presented by Hungary to non-heads of state. It recognizes Domingo's history of performing with the Hungarian State Opera and his love for Hungarian music, according to a statement from the Hungarian embassy.

One of the world's leading operatic tenors since the late 1960s, Domingo is also general director of Washington National Opera and Los Angeles Opera.
