Domingo Says Rumors of His Retirement Were a Misunderstanding

By Emily Quinn
12 Aug 2005

Plácido Domingo

Tenor Plácido Domingo says he is not ready to retire, despite last week’s BBC article that suggested he was, the Salzburger Nachrichten reports.

Domingo made it clear that his retirement from performing was by no means imminent, and said he has plans to perform in 2009 and 2010, including the premiere of a Tan Dun opera.

The tenor said that although he has reduced the number of performances he gives each year, the news of his retirement was a misunderstanding. He was only speculating, he said, on how his career might end.

In the BBC interview reported last week, Domingo also said that the age gap between himself and his leading ladies was becoming too great.
