Lucie de Lammermoor, the rarely seen French version of Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, opened at Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown, New York, on July 1.
Lucie de Lammermoor premiered in Paris in 1839, four years after the debut of Donizetti's original Italian version. In revising the opera, Donizetti eliminated one character, added another, and inserted an aria from his 1834 Rosmonda d'Inghilterra. It has not been heard in the United States in nearly a century.
The cast includes Sarah Coburn, in the title role; Raúl Hernández as Edgard; Earle Patriarco as Henri, and Craig Phillips as Raymond. The conductor is Beatrice Jona Affron.
Lillian Groag is the director. Sets are by John Conklin, costumes by Catherine Zuber, and lighting by Christopher Akerlind.
The production runs through August 23. It will also be presented at Boston Lyric Opera in November.
