Dayton Opera expects to finish its 2004-05 fiscal year in the black, officials said at the company's annual meeting on June 16.
The company has balanced its budget for seven straight years.
The season was the first in which the company presented all of its performances at the Schuster Center, which opened in 2003. It featured productions of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, Puccini's Tosca, Mark Adamo's Little Women, and a gala event titled "Opera Goes to the Movies!"
“This season marked growth for the company, as Dayton Opera presented all of its productions at the Schuster Center and expanded its repertoire to include a new American opera alongside the grand classics," said general and artistic director Thomas Bankston.
"Dayton Opera experienced challenges that are being shared by performing arts companies both locally and nationwide, those being a trend toward declining season subscription sales, as well as the effect of a less than robust and predictable economy," he added. "But on a positive note, because of strong fundraising and support, Dayton Opera has been able to once again end with a balanced budget.”
