Danish bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pederson, a onetime sideman for pianist Oscar Peterson, has died, according to reports in the Danish press. He was 58.

Pederson played with the Danish Radio Orchestra while still a teenager. The leading bassist in Denmark in the 1960s, he played with such jazz stars as Sonny Rollins, Bill Evans, Roland Kirk, Dexter Gordon, and Bud Powell when they visited.

In the 1970s, he made a series of recordings with Peterson, sometimes with guitarist Joe Pass. He also appeared on recordings with Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Dexter Gordon, and Dizzy Gillespie.
