Guitarist Sharon Isbin Appears on Showtime's The L Word
By Ben Mattison
Classical guitarist Sharon Isbin makes a guest appearance on Showtime's The L Word in an episode that airs for the first time tonight at 10 p.m. ET. The prime-time soap, which follows the lives and loves of a group of affluent California lesbians, drew enormous buzz in its first season and become a magnet for guest actresses and pop musicians. “I play myself,” Isbin, who is openly gay, told the Boston Globe. “I play the guitar in a scene in the nightclub on the show called The Planet, but I also have some lines. There are only four of them—but they are good ones.” The episode, titled "Luminous," repeats tonight at 11 p.m., tomorrow at 9 p.m., and April 6 at 10 p.m. Isbin's most recent CD is a collection of guitar concertos recorded with the New York Philharmonic. The CD, which includes Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, Villa-Lobos’s Guitar Concerto, and Manuel Ponce's Concierto del Sur, is the first Philharmonic recording ever to feature guitar.
