Conductor Libor Pesek has withdrawn from scheduled performances with the St. Louis Symphony on March 18 and 19 because of a fractured shoulder, the SLSO announced. Yan Pascal Tortelier will replace him.
The 71-year-old Pesek is the former chief conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic and London's Royal Philharmonic. He is currently principal guest conductor of the Prague Symphony Orchestra and president of the Prague Spring Festival, and is a frequent guest conductor in the United States and Europe.
Tortelier is the former principal conductor of the BBC Philharmonic; he will become the principal guest conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony this fall.
Dvorák's symphonic poems The Wood Dove and The Noonday Witch have been replaced on the program with the composer Eighth Symphony. The rest of the program remains the same: Milaud's Fanfare, Franck's Symphonic Variations, and Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23, with soloist Ivan Moravec.
