Opera Colorado will open its new Ellie Caulkins Opera House on September 10 with a celebratory concert and gala, the company announced.
Among the singers to be featured in the concert are soprano Renée Fleming, who will give the world premiere of a new work composed for the occasion by Jake Heggie, with lyrics by Terrence McNally. Heggie will accompany Fleming at the piano.
Also scheduled to appear are bass-baritone James Morris; sopranos Cynthia Lawrence and Emily Pulley; mezzo-sopranos Theodora Hanslowe, Judith Cristin, and Marcia Ragonetti; bass-baritone Stephen West; and baritones Robert Orth, Charles Edwin Taylor, and Yalun Zhang.
The concert will be preceded by a cocktail party and followed by a dinner and dancing. Tickets to the entire evening begin at $500, but tickets to the concert will be available to general public for $16 to $85 starting July 18.
