An postponed American tour by Russia's Alexandrov Red Army Chorus and Dance Ensemble has been rescheduled for March, promoters of the tour announced.
The group had planned to travel to New York, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Washington, Detroit, and Chicago last November, but was unable to get visas in time, according to the European Advertisement Agency, the promoter.
The group will give two performances at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center on March 6 and one at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., on March 7; other stops on the tour have not been rescheduled, but organizers hope to bring the group back later this year or next year. The program will include folk music, liturgical music, and Soviet military songs.
Founded in 1928 by Alexander Alexandrov, the composer of the Soviet national anthem, the troupe performed some 1,500 times for Soviet troops during World War II. It last visited the United States in 1989.
