Lincoln Center’s New Visions series begins its seventh season tomorrow night with The Renaissance Muse.

Performances of the staged music-theater work, directed by Mark Lamos, run through January 29. Lamos is an award-winning director with productions of the rarely performed Mozart opera Il re pastore and Sheriden’s The Rivals to his credit.

The Renaissance Muse, commissioned by Lincoln Center and the Barbican Centre in London, features music, poetry, and prose of the English Renaissance performed by countertenor Andreas Scholl and actress Laila Robins. The show’s on-stage musical accompaniment is provided by Crawford Young and Stacey Shames on lute and harp, respectively.

Love found and love lost are the performance’s themes; the texts are provided by Shakespeare, Ben Jonson, Thomas Wyatt, and others. It includes Renaissance art songs by composers John Dowland, Thomas Campion, and others.

The new works presented in the New Visions series place an emphasis on innovative stage presentation and collaboration, with productions commissioned by Lincoln Center.
