The St. Louis Symphony has canceled concerts scheduled for January 28 and 29 because of its ongoing labor dispute.
The performances, which were to feature pianist Garrick Ohlsson and to be conducted by Houston Symphony music director Hans Graf, are the seventh and eighth subscription concerts canceled since the work stoppage began earlier this month. The program included Rachminoff's Second Piano Concerto, Tchaikovsky's Second Symphony, and three works by Anatol Liadov: Baba-Yaga, The Enchanted Lake, and Kikimora.
Ticket holders may receive refunds or exchange their tickets for a future performance, and should call (314) 534-1700 for more information.
The SLSO has also canceled a children's concert scheduled for February 1. But tickets for subsequent events, including concerts scheduled for February 4 and 5 with pianist Jonathan Biss, are still on sale.
The musicians have not performed since their contract expired on January 2, and there has been no sign of a return to negotiations. Management calls the work stoppage a strike, noting that musicians have been invited to continue working under the terms of the previous contract. Musicians say they have been locked out, citing management's decision to bar them from judging scheduled auditions during the first week of the labor crisis.
