SYNOPSIS
(WARNING: POTENTIAL TRIGGERS BELOW)

Darlene Craviotto's powerful 1982 dark comedy PIZZA MAN is a tale of two 20-something women, Julie and Alice, who decide to vent their patriarchy-induced frustrations in a drastic way. Dismayed with the state of their lives and their place in the world they decide one night to overcome their position by doing something aggressive; "something a man would do." Intending to turn the tables on years of misogyny and sexism, they pick a guy, any guy, to take advantage of. “Men have been doing it for years, why can't a woman try it?” Once Julie and Alice convince an unsuspecting pizza delivery man to come in and share a beer with them, the evening gets wild, angry, crazy, and cathartic.

This play contains frank discussion of sexual assault and rape, as well as physical violence with the implication of sexual assault.

Our first read-through will take place the weekend of January 26th. Rehearsals will take place 2-3 times a week for the first several weeks, increasing to 4-5x per week as the show nears opening. The production opens March 6th and runs 6 shows per week through March 18th, at Producers Club in Midtown Manhattan. Please be prepared to provide your availability for this time period.

SEEKING
JULIE RODGERS: Late-twenties. Described as “the girl next door." Julie has gone through life as a “good girl," a “rule follower," a “nice person,” and feels it has led her nowhere, which has resulted in her reliance on alcohol. She is witty, charming, intelligent, stylish, sharp, and damaged. She is a woman filled with rage that comes crashing through her “good girl” persona through the course of the play.

ALICE MEYERLINK: Mid-twenties; Jewish. Described as “neurotic," Alice struggles with self-love and relies on food to fill her voids. Less worldly and more trusting than Julie,  Alice has a flair for the dramatic and often over-reacts to the smaller events in her day, overshadowing the “real” moments in her life. Alice is easily swayed by those around her but she is not as naive as she presents. Unintentionally, Alice is the comedic relief for most of the play.

(PLEASE NOTE: THE ROLE OF EDDIE, THE PIZZA MAN, HAS BEEN CAST.)
