Casting New Play Trans/seXXX/angel
Seeking performers of all gender identities, ethnicities and ages for a new play by Columbia Playrwighting MFA student under the instruction of David Henry Hwang and Lynn Nottage.
trans/seXXX/angel is based on the life of trans male porn star, activist, and public speaker Buck Angel. It tracks Angel's transition from female to male alongside his introduction to the adult film industry in Los Angeles in the early 1990s. Through the lens of Angel and his companion, the greek oracle Tiresias, the play explores the politics of gender and the ways in which sexuality and the body are criminalized and regulated in society.
Casting the following roles:
BUCK ANGEL: trans male, any age, any race. Begins vulnerable, uncertain, self-loathing, small. Ends confident, charismatic, funny, big. Always earnest.
TIRESIAS: gender non-binary, any age, any race Big personality, sarcastic, playful, funny. Loves to perform and amuse themselves. Wise but jaded.
LISA MILLER: female, 20s-40s, any race Small town, So-Cal, working class. Loud and brassy.
RANDY REEMS: male, late 20s-50s, any race Loud and sleazy. Knows he's ugly but doesn't care, thinks it's a virtue. Repulsive, but with charisma.
CHERRY: female, early to mid 20s, any race Young and sweet, unaffected by most things. Perceptive. Fried hair and frosted lipstick.
