Hendrick is Met's Bacchus Feb. 4

Michael Hendrick will sing the role of Bacchus at the Met's Feb. 4 performance of Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, replacing Lance Ryan who is ill.

Hendrick made his Met debut as Menelas in Strauss’s Die Ägyptische Helena in 2007. He recently sang the role of Bacchus at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and has also performed it with the Pittsburgh Opera.

Ariadne auf Naxos stars Nina Stemme in the title role with Kathleen Kim as Zerbinetta, Sarah Connolly as the Composer, and Jochen Schmeckenbecher in his Met debut as Harlekin. Kirill Petrenko conducts.
