By PlaybillArts Staff
20 Oct 2009

Hui He

Hui He will sing the three remaining Met performances of Verdi's Aida in March and April, replacing Hasmik Papian. This marks the Shanghai-born soprano's company debut.

**

He has sung Aida at the Los Angeles Opera, the Arena di Verona, and on tour with the Teatro Communale of Florence in her native Shanghai. She made her New York debut last year singing the title role of Tosca with the New York Philharmonic under Lorin Maazel. Tosca was also the role of her La Scala debut in 2006.

Her international career was launched when she won second prize in Plácido Domingo’s Operalia contest in 2000. Two years later she won first prize in the International Voce Verdiani Competition.

Aida also features Dolora Zajick as Amneris, Salvatore Licitra as Radamès, Carlo Guelfi as Amonasro, Carlo Colombara as Ramfis, and Stefan Kocán as the King. Paolo Carignani conducts.

Performances take place March 26 and 31 at 8 PM and April 3 at 1 PM.
