In honor of 100th Anniversary of The Burnham Plan - which helped shape the greater Chicago area over the past century - Garrick Ohlsson will join James Conlon and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra July 15 for a Ravinia Festival performance of Schumann, Wagner and Prokofiev.
"In 1909," according to historical background notes, "Daniel Burnham and Edward Bennett collaborated with the Commercial Club of Chicago and others to create a new plan for the greater Chicago region. The year 2009 is a time to look back 100 years for inspiration, and appreciate the big dreams that led to Chicago’s sweeping lakefront, the “emerald necklace” of County Forest Preserves, and a tradition of thinking comprehensively about the region’s development, always looking to the future."
The 8 PM performance at the Ravinia Pavilion will present the following program:
Wagner: “Siegfried’s Funeral March” from Götterdämmerung (in memory of Daniel Burnham)
Schumann: Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 54
Prokofiev: Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major, Op. 100
Lawn tickets are priced at $10, with reserved seats for $25.
