The Metropolitan Opera's company debut of John Adams' Doctor Atomic - which explores the momentous creation of the atomic bomb - will complete its run Nov. 13 at 8 PM.
Staged by Penny Woolcock and conducted by Alan Gilbert, the production stars Canadian baritone Gerald Finley as physicist Robert Oppenheimer- a role he created in the work's 2005 San Francisco Opera premiere.
Other key players in the story, set against the backdrop of the Manhattan Project, include American mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke as wife Kitty Oppenheimer, Meredith Arwady as the Tewa Indian housemaid Pasqualita, baritone Richard Paul Fink as theoretical physicist Edward Teller and Philadelphia-born bass Eric Owens as General Leslie Groves.
The creative team is comprised of set designer Julian Crouch, costume designer Catherine Zuber, lighting designer Brian MacDevitt and sound designer Mark Grey. The extensively-used video projections are by Fifty Nine Productions.
