The cast of the upcoming national tour of The Color Purple met the press September 20 to offer a new glimpse of the Tony-winning revival. Take a look at the video above as Adrianna Hicks, who takes on the role of Celie, leads the cast in a performance of the rousing title number.
Hicks served as a swing in the original Broadway company of the 2015 revival; joining her on the road are two fellow cast members who are also stepping into principal roles: Carla R. Stewart as Shug Avery and Carrie Compere, who originally understudied Sofia before playing the role full-time in the final months of the run.
The road production will begin performances October 7 in Schenectady, New York, prior to celebrating its official opening at Baltimore's Hippodrome Theatre.
The cast, under the direction of the John Doyle, also features Gavin Gregory as Mister, N’Jameh Camara as Nettie, and J. Daughtry as Harpo.
