The singer-songwriter, who rose to stardom with his debut album Waiting for My Rocket to Come, will make his Broadway debut in the Sara Bareilles musical November 3.

Grammy Award-winning musician Jason Mraz, who is set to make his Broadway debut November 3 in the hit Sara Bareilles musical Waitress, gave fans an early preview on October 30 with a special mini-concert featuring the show’s current star Betsy Wolfe.

The singer-songwriter, who rose to fame with his 2002 debut album Waiting for My Rocket to Come, will take on the role of Dr. Pomatter beginning November 3 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Mraz is set to play a ten-week limited engagement.

Bareilles introduced Mraz and Wolfe, who performed “It Only Takes a Taste” and “Bad Idea” from the score. Mraz then remained on stage to perform one of his own songs, “93 Million Miles,” which he described as a kind of homecoming.

“I feel completely transformed,” Mraz said of his experience with Waitress. “I feel like everything I’ve done in the last 20 years was just buying time until I could get back here and become a part of a show and have a purpose. So, thank you for the invitation Sara.”

This is not Mraz’s first foray into Bareilles’ score; he appeared as a guest artist on the composer’s 2015 album What’s Inside: Songs from Waitress. Both tracks he appears on, “Bad Idea” and “You Matter to Me,” are performed in the show by Dr. Pomatter and Jenna.

In addition, Bareilles will welcome Mraz to co-host a new edition of the musical’s “Cast Album Karaoke” series October 30 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Prior to the 7 PM performance, audience members will have the opportunity to sign up for a chance to sing a portion of any song from the score to Waitress on the stage in a post-show event.

Bareilles, who also made her Broadway debut in the musical (succeeding Tony winner Jessie Mueller as Jenna), returns to emcee the karaoke series, which launched September 14 last year.
